Windsurf

To windsurf, as with kite boarding, you will use the power of the wind to glide across the water. However, the design of the windsurfing board is different, mainly in that it uses a sail instead of a kite. Windsurf boards are powered by the wind on a sail, which is connected to the board.

While the sail is sometimes thought of by those who haven’t tried it as a kind of handicap for those who can’t handle a proper surfboard, in fact it is challenging to perfect control of the windsurfing board. Many of the rules of balance still apply, and most wind surfers are accomplished surfers. Because of the extra propulsion provided by the sail, wind surfers are often able to traverse larger waves before traditional surf boarders.

Windsurfing was recognized as an Olympic sport in 1984. Sometimes newcomers are alienated by its difficulty, and feel they have no access to the specialized boards. However, user-friendly boards have started to become more popular lately, and the sport’s overall popularity is on an incline.
